A place for everyone.

We stand with children with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, and their families, across Nagaland.

Our journey with Alashi

Alashi Foundation was established out of love, courage and a deeply personal journey. It is inspired by our daughter Alashi, a joyful young child with Down syndrome and a resilient heart.

Through her we have learned that every child is unique, capable and deserving of dignity, acceptance and opportunity. We have also seen the gaps in awareness and support in our communities. The foundation exists to close them, replacing stigma with understanding and fear with acceptance.

“The Alashi Foundation embodies compassionate action. Through impactful initiatives, they actively challenge stigmas, restore dignity, and build spaces of inclusive grace for children with IDD and their families. Alashi is a shining beacon of integrity and transformative impact.”

Alashi’s Basket

An Alashi Foundation initiative

A welcome gift for every baby born with Down syndrome

Within days of a birth or a diagnosis, a parent from our community brings the family a basket, sits with them, and leaves a number they can call. Free, always.

Anyone around the family can ask: parents, grandparents, friends, doctors, nurses and ASHA workers.

01

Talk about Down syndrome accurately

Help communities discuss Down syndrome and other special needs conditions sensitively, correctly and without bias.

02

Connect families with each other

Support parents by introducing them to other families, networks and the resources that already exist.

03

Advocate for inclusive education

Back the integration of children with special needs into mainstream schools, and their retention and growth there.

04

Study stigma and publish what we find

Carry out surveys and research on the challenges families face, and publish material that informs the public.

05

Full participation in community life

Work toward children with special needs taking part in the wider community as equals, with confidence and dignity.

Growing up, included.
